Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 3’ Gets IMAX 3D Release

IMAX and Disney today announced that Toy Story 3 will be released to IMAX 3D theatres simultaneously with its wide release on June 18, 2010.

Toy Story 3 will be digitally re-mastered with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology.

“Pixar’s beloved films have changed the way people go to the movies. IMAX is proud to be working with both Pixar and Disney, who like IMAX, strive to transport moviegoers to incredible places that people only dream about visiting,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment.

“In IMAX 3D and through the power of Randy Newman’s incomparable music, audiences will be able to see and hear Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the larger than life characters of Toy Story in a whole new way.”

Directed by Lee Unkrich, Toy Story 3 is a story of survival as the toys attempt to escape from the school to which they were donated after Andy left home for college.

‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs’ gets IMAX release

Sony Pictures Animation and IMAX today announced that “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs,” an adaptation of the bestselling children’s book written by Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett, written for the screen and directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, will be released to IMAX theatres simultaneously with the film’s wide release on September 18, 2009.

The special IMAX 3D release will be digitally re-mastered from Sony Pictures Animation’s Stereoscopic 3D master into the state-of-the-art image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with IMAX DMR (Digital Re-Mastering) technology.

Bill Hader will voice Flint Lockwood, a young inventor who dreams of creating something that will improve everyone’s life. Anna Faris takes on the role of Sam Sparks, a weathergirl covering the phenomenon who hides her intelligence behind a perky exterior. James Caan plays Tim Lockwood, Flint’s technophobic father. Andy Samberg plays Brent, the town bully who has plagued Flint since childhood. Bruce Campbell plays Mayor Shelbourne, who figures out that Flint’s invention can put the town, and more importantly himself, on the map and Mr. T plays the by-the-rules town cop Earl Devereaux. The film also features the vocal talent of Neil Patrick Harris.

‘Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa’ IMAX run extended

DreamWorks Animation has announced that the IMAX run of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa has been extended to include the Thanksgiving holiday, and will run into December. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa will be digitally re-mastered for IMAX and play for a full run in IMAX theatres, including select new IMAX Digital theatres.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africaa joins four other DreamWorks Animation movies previously announced and/or released on IMAX, including Kung Fu Panda, released on June 6, 2008, as well as DreamWorks Animation’s first three 3D titles, Monsters vs. Aliens (March 2009), How to Train Your Dragon (March 2010), and Shrek Goes Fourth (May 2010).

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa opens on November 7 in North America.

DreamWorks Animations signs deal with IMAX

IMAX and DreamWorks Animation announced a deal to release the studio’s first three 3-D motion pictures worldwide in IMAX 3-D. The IMAX 3-D releases will include Monsters vs. Aliens in March 2009, How to Train Your Dragon in November 2009 and Shrek Goes Fourth in May 2010. A fourth DreamWorks Animation title, Kung Fu Panda, will be released in IMAX’s 2-D format in June 2008.

The IMAX 3-D titles are expected to be among the first presented with IMAX’s digital 3-D projection system, which is scheduled to be launched beginning June 2008. This is IMAX’s first multiple 3-D picture deal with a Hollywood studio. The 3-D titles also will be simultaneously released to conventional digital 3-D theaters.
