FOX Renews ‘The Simpsons’ for Two More Seasons

FOX has renewed The Simpsons for a 24th and 25th season, bringing the series total to 559 episodes.

Following the MLB American League Championship Series and World Series games on FOX, The Simpsons returns with all-new episodes beginning with “Treehouse of Horrors XXII,” on Sunday, Oct. 30 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT).

Synopsis: In the spooky opener, Homer takes a dangerous dive into an isolated canyon on Candy Peak, but when a crashing boulder traps his arm, he channels Aron Ralston (guest voicing as himself) to save himself.

In “The Diving Bell and Butterball,” the first of three hair-raising Halloween tales, a venomous spider bite leaves Homer paralyzed, but when Lisa discovers Homer’s ability to communicate through natural gases, he is able to express his love for Marge.

The killer spells continue in “Dial D for Diddly,” when Ned Flanders, devout preacher by day, transforms into a cold-blooded vigilante by night.

In the final terrifying tale, “In the Na’Vi,” Bart and Milhouse are assigned on a mission to access a sacred extract on a distant planet. They morph into the land’s indigenous one-eyed avatars, but when Bart finds love and an eternal mate abroad, he is caught in planet warfare.

Seth MacFarlane to Reboot ‘The Flintstones’

FOX announced today that Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane is set to reboot the classic 1960s Hanna-Barbera series, The Flintstones. Production is set to begin this fall for a 2013 premiere. The series will be produced by both 20th Century Fox Television and Warner Bros. Television.

According to Deadline, in a video screened at FOX’s upfronts presentation, MacFarlane assured those in attendance that the characters will look the same–but new prehistoric technology will be introduced. An example he pondered was, “What is the animal version of an iPad?”

Arnold Schwarzenegger Gets Animated in ‘The Governator’

Entertainment Weekly reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger will star in a new animated series and comic book aptly titled The Governator. The project is being co-developed by the one and only Stan Lee (co-creator of Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, etc.) and it set to premiere in 2012.

The Governator will have a high-tech lair beneath his Brentwood home, complete with super vehicles and a variety of Super Suits that allow him to fly and do other superhero stuff (I’m guessing there will be a suit that makes him super strong and super fast, etc), and a team of sidekicks, such as Zeke Muckerberg (a play on Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder), a 13-year-old computer whiz.

Each episode/issue will consist of the Governator facing off against an evil organization called Gangsters Imposters Racketeers Liars & Irredeemable Ex-cons (G.I.R.L.I.E. Men, for short).

Comedy Central Renews ‘Futurama’ with 26 Episodes

Good news, everyone! Comedy Central has ordered an additional 26 episodes of Futurama that will air as two seasons in 2012 and 2013. This is the same amount of episodes ordered a couple years ago with the first half airing in 2010 and the other half set to air this summer.

It’s debated whether or not the 26 episode orders are one season, or two, as they are air in 13 episode chunks. If we’re basing things off of 26 episodes, this means Futurama just got renewed for a seventh season. If we’re going off 13 episode splits, it means it just got renewed for its eight and ninth seasons. Then there’s the fact that the four direct-to-dvd movies were split into 16 episodes and referred to officially as season 5. Regardless of technicalities, Futurama is set to be on the air through Summer 2013. Not bad for a once-cancelled show.
