Brad Bird to direct live-action 1906 with Warner Bros and Pixar

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Brad Bird, director of The Incredibles and Ratatouille, has signed on to make his live-action feature directorial debut with “1906,” a co-production between Warner Bros. and Disney/Pixar. Since the film will be live-action, I think its safe to assume that Pixar will be in charge of all the special effects in the movie. And considering that the movie is set during the great 1906 Earthquake in San Francisco, I think there will be a large amount of special effects shots.

The story centers on a college student who begins to investigate the murder of his father, uncovering a web of deceit that has left the city vulnerable to the sort of fire that breaks out when the Great Earthquake of 1906 hits San Francisco.

According to Trademork, on March 3, 2008, Dreamworks Animation filed a trademark for Madagascar Escape 2 Africa in relation to “animated motion picture films for theatrical release and for distribution via television”. They also registered MadagascarEscape2Africa.com, a second hint that leads us to believe the new name will in fact be Escape 2 Africa. Russia bans Happy Tree Friends

Variety reports that Happy Tree Friends and The Adventures of Big Jeff have been banned by the Russian government who deemed them too violent to air.

“Rather than argue we took them off air, although any television criminal drama in Russia is a hundred times more violent than these cartoons,” said Roman Sarkisov, general manager of the television station that aired the programs. “Mainstream viewers in Russia tend to be afraid of something they do not understand. The Russian public is not so civilized as in Europe. They are rather conservative.”

According to a bitter, and rightfully so, Sarkisov, the programs will be replaced by “childish and stupid cartoons.”
