Fox continues Family Guy without its creator

Fox will continue to work on new episodes of Family Guy its creator/exec producer Seth MacFarlane, who is currently on strike. Seth MacFarlane has been quoted as saying, “I hope they don’t do it” and that going ahead without him would hurt his relationship with the studio.

According to sources, there are three episodes close to completion and several other episodes in various stages of development. We can assume that the voices for these episodes have already been recorded because Seth himself voices the majority of the characters.

Shrek the Third debuts on DVD and HD DVD

DreamWorks Animations’ Shrek the Third is now available on HD DVD and standard DVD. If you plan on getting it, try to get it this week. New releases tend be on sale during their first week.

The DVD version includes hours of bonus material such as “Shrek’s Guide to Parenthood,” where viewers receive parental advice from Donkey, Puss in Boots, Pinocchio and Gingy. Another cool feature included is “Shrek Shmash-Ups,” which allows viewers to choose and mix scenes from all three Shrek films and put them to music.

The HD DVD version includes a number of interactive and web-enabled features. “The Animators’ Corner” is an interactive, picture-in-picture experience featuring storyboards relevant to the scenes on screen. “My Menus” are customizable character-themed menus; “Shrek’s Trivia Track” features pop-up fun facts; and “Donkey’s Digital Coloring Book” is an interactive coloring book that allows viewers to digitally paint their favorite scenes.

Killer Bean Forever Trailer

Several years ago Jeff Lew was the Lead Animator of Matrix Reloaded. It was a great job, but it wasn’t his dream job. He wanted to make his own feature film. So he quit his job to pursue his dream.

For the past 4 years, he’s been working at his computer 14 hours a day, 7 days a week. He’s spent his entire life savings and maxed out credit cards. After all this time and effort, his movie is almost done. Below you can find a trailer for his feature film directorial debut… Killer Bean Forever.

Ratatouille, Cars, Pixar Shorts debut on Blu-Ray

It’s a great day for animation lovers who own a Blu-Ray player as Pixar’s Ratatouille, Cars, and Short Films Collection Vol. 1 are now available. All three are also available on DVD for you non-HD folks out there.

John Lasseter, CCO of Pixar and Disney Animation Studios told AWN, “Blu-ray is really exciting because I feel for the first time that you can truly see a Pixar film because there are so many details that get lost on the DVD. Also because of the amazing amount of data available on the Blu-ray, it makes it so you can do special features that you can’t do in any other technology. We have the ‘Cine-Explore,’ which is like having a commentary with visuals. So it’s like watching the movie, hearing the commentary and seeing a documentary at the same time. It’s for real cinephiles, and, for me, as a filmmaker, it’s great because this becomes the ultimate document on the making of the film.

Bee Movie opens in second place

DreamWorks Animations’ new film, Bee Movie, starring Jerry Seinfeld, opened in second place, raking in $39,100,000. That wasn’t enough to take down Denzel Washington’s American Gangster.

I expect both Bee Movie and American Gangster to do well next week as well as the audiences flip. The adults who went to see American Gangster will take their kids to see Bee Movie next weekend while the parents who saw Bee Movie this weekend will check out American Gangster next weekend.

Here’s a list of the top 10 movies this past weekend:

1 American Gangster
2 Bee Movie
3 Saw IV
4 Dan in Real Life
5 30 Days of Night
6 The Game Plan
7 Martian Child
8 Michael Clayton
9 Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married?
10 Gone Baby Gone

New Pixar’s Up details

Pixar’s 2009 movie, Up, will be written and directed by Monsters, Inc.’s Pete Docter, along with Finding Nemo’s Bob Peterson.

“I think it’s a really great, emotional, whimsical [story],” Brad Bird said in an interview while promoting the upcoming DVD release of Ratatouille. “It’s not like any other Pixar film.”

The story will be aimed at a more mature audience and, according to rumors, will tell the story of a 70-year-old man who teams up with a wilderness ranger to fight monsters.
