Homer Simpson to appear on The Tonight Show

If you thought the whole 7-Eleven stores turned into Kwik-E-Marts was unique, how about an appearance by Homer Simpson on The Tonight Show?

Yea – not as cool, but definitely something different and fresh. Usually they have the voice actors on the show but this time the actual Homer (in animated form obviously) will make an appearance during Jay Leno’s opening monologue on Tuesday, July 24th.

So mark your calendars and set your DVR or VCR (what’s that?) to record The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Tuesday, July 24th at 11:35PM.

Cars 2 in the works?

Oh those darn internet rumors! The latest rumor circulating around the internet is that of a sequel to Pixar’s Cars. – I’m pretty sure this isn’t going to happen. It would make more sense to create a Finding Nemo sequel, considering it has been Pixar’s highest grossing movie. It also received much better reviews than Cars. Heck, an Incredibles sequel would be a better choice. I just don’t see audiences wanting another Cars movie.

Until Pixar confirms (please don’t) or denies (please do!) this story, it shall be nothing more than a rumor.

Rest in peace James Street, child voice actor

I’m very sad to report that James Street, a voice actor for STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE series since 2004, died on July 4, 2007. His death was caused by injuries he obtained in a skateboarding accident. He was 13 years old.

James was also the voice of Pepito in MADELINE. He was born in London, England, but moved to California at eight months old.

The “James David Street Memorial Fund” has been set up and donations can be sent to California Oaks State Bank, P.O. Box 5038, Thousand Oaks, California 91359-9873.

Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 13, at the Chapel of the Hills Conejo Mountain Funeral Home.

It’s very sad to hear that a member of the animation industry has left us. It’s even sadder because he was just a child. May he rest in peace.

Transformers number 1 at the box office

In what comes are no surprise to anyone alive on the earth, Transformers movie, based on the popular cartoon from back in the day, debuted at #1 with $67,600,000 over the three day weekend (Fri ~ Sun) and overall $152,500,000 for the entire week. If those numbers hold up it will become the highest grossing first-week ever for a non-sequel movie, beating out Spider-Man’s $151.5 million debut in 2002.

Congrats to Hasbro, Michael Bay, DreamWorks and Paramount.

Ratatouille: Fish, Rats, Chefs and Robots

CGSociety published an awesome Ratatouille feature that spotlights Jason Deamer, one of the artists on the team.

Update: The original article is no longer online but here’s an archived copy.

Here’s a snippet:

Sometimes, a studio discovers its best talent right under its nose. That was the case with Jason Deamer, 33, who is the character art director for Pixar Animation Studio’s upcoming feature animation Wall-E, and was one of four character designers for the studio’s current release, Disney/Pixar’s scrumptious animated treat, Ratatouille. Deamer didn’t apply for a job as an artist at Pixar; he doodled his way up the career ladder.

Bambi Meets Godzilla

Bambi Meets Godzilla is the title of a humoristic 1969 Canadian cartoon created entirely by Marv Newland. In 1994 it was voted #38 of the 50 Greatest Cartoons of all time by members of the animation field. Only two minutes long, this cartoon is considered a classic by many animation fans.

The Simpsons 7-Eleven promotion

A bunch of 7-Eleven stores throughout the country have been turned into KWIK-E-MARTS. If you don’t know (shame on you) KWI-E-MART is the convenience store owned by Apu in The Simpsons show.

The 7-Elevens changed their logo, stocked Buzz Cola and are selling Squishees! Check out more images here.
