During last night’s 81st Academy Awards, Pixar’s WALL-E took home the award for Best Animated Feature, marking Andrew Stanton’s second win in the category. In case you’re wondering, he also won for Finding Nemo. WALL-E was a huge hit for Disney/Pixar, raking in over $534MM worldwide and receiving a movie critic review average of 96% on RottenTomatoes.
Also announced at last night’s awards ceremony was the winner for Best Animated Short. The winner was “La Maison En Petits Cubes,” directed by Kunio Kato, which you can watch in its entirety here.
Disney has confirmed that both “Monster’s Inc.” and “A Bug’s Life” will make their Blu-ray Disc debut May 19; ten days, conveniently, before the theatrical release of Pixar’s latest “Up” — which just so happens to be tied directly to the releases, with each including free movie bucks for a screening of Up.
Both films will each be presented in their original aspect ratios (2.35:1 A Bug’s Life, 1.85:1 Monster’s Inc.) in 1080p video with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Both discs will also feature a digital copy of each respective film that you can watch on a portable device such as an iPod, BD-Live access, and the brand new Filmmakers’ Roundtable.
In addition, A Bug’s Life will include a new bonus feature: an Original Story Treatment, while Monster’s Inc. will include the all-new “Ride and Go Seek: Building Monstropolis in Tokyo for Monster’s Inc.”

The guys over at Latino Review had the chance to interview the great Brad Bird recently, and asked about his live-action film 1906, Toy Story 3 and the possibility of an Iron Giant theatrical re-release. Here’s a snippet of the interview:
Question: So do you see a lot of the other stuff that Pixar is working on, like Toy Story 3?
Brad Bird: Oh, absolutely. Michael Arndt, who wrote Little Miss Sunshine, wrote the script to it, so it’s going to be really great.
Question: How far along is it?
Brad Bird: It’s about ready to go into production. They’re just about They’re just about finished with Up, and the animators will regain their sense for a few weeks…

The morning it was announced that Pixar’s WALL-E had been nominated for six Academy Awards, including best Animated Feature. Competing against WALL-E are Disney’s Bolt and DreamWorks Animations’ Kung Fu Panda.

WALL-E tied Beauty Beast as the animated movie with the most Oscar nominations. Rounding out the animated movie nominees were Waltz With Bashir for Foreign Language Film and La Maison de Petits Cubes, Lavatory – Lovestory, Oktapodi, Presto, and This Way Up for Animated Short Film.

Congrats go out to everyone at Pixar and Sony Pictures Classics for winning Golden Globes at last night’s ceremony. Pixar’s Wall-E nabbed the Best Animated Feature Film award, while Sony Pictures Classics’s Waltz with Bashir won Best Foreign Language Film.
There’s no stopping Pixar’s little robot as he receives another award. At the 14th Critics’ Choice Awards, WALL-E won the award for Best Animated Feature. Waltz with Bashir, which was competing against WALL-E in the animation category, won Best Foreign Language Film. The rest of the animation nominees were Bolt, Kung Fu Panda, and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (WDSHE) today announced its new Blu-ray + DVD Combo Packs, along with the release date for Snow White, A Bug’s Life and Monsters, Inc.
Upcoming Blu-ray + DVD Combo Pack titles include Pinocchio: 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition on March 10, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in October.
Disney introduced the first Blu-ray + DVD Combo Pack in 2008 with the release of Sleeping Beauty.
Monsters Inc. and A Bug’s Life will be released in 2009.
