Pixar’s Coco 2 is in the works at Pixar Animation Studios. The announcement was made today by CEO Bob Iger during The Walt Disney Company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders.
“While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart and adventure,” said Iger. “And we can’t wait to share more soon.”
Coco 2 reunites the team behind the original film, including director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina. Mark Nielsen will produce.
At first the announcement mentioned a 2029 release but it has since been removed. We say that’s a pretty safe bet, though. And we don’t think they’d recast Miguel, which means we’ll likely see a grown-up Miguel in the sequel.
