CNN asks, “Is it time for The Simpsons to go?”

CNN reporter Ted Leopold writes:

As it turns 20 on Thursday, “The Simpsons’ ” greatest enemy may be itself.

For many fans — particularly hard-core followers in the mold of the show’s sneering Comic Book Guy — the glory days are long past. Some refuse to watch anymore; others admit they still find it funny, but they’re disappointed the show didn’t bow out at the top of its game.

In the 1990s, “The Simpsons” was one of the most inventive shows ever broadcast, taking on high and low culture with equal abandon, becoming engrained within the culture at large. It was revolutionary; at the very least, it helped make Fox a big-league player.

What do you think? Is it time for The Simpsons to leave the airwaves? Leave your thoughts in the comments section.

‘The Princess and the Frog’ debuts at No. 1 with $25MM

Classic animation fans rejoice! Disney’s return to 2D animation is a success with The Princess and the Frog earning $25 million in its first weekend of nationwide release; enough to take the #1 spot.

The Princess and the Frog is Disney’s first traditionally animated film, with theatrical release, since 2004 when “Home on the Range” had an opening weekend haul of $13.8 million. That film went on to gross $104 million worldwide — a gross that The Princess and the Frog will no doubt eclipse.

The Princess and the Frog is based on The Brothers Grimm’s classic fairy tale “The Frog Prince,” which follows the adventures of a young woman turned into a frog by a kiss from an amphibian.
