New Batman: Gotham Knight video

Popeye the Sailor 1938-1940 Vol. 2 DVD preview

Popeye The Sailor 1938-1940 V2 is coming to DVD on June 17th, and we’ve got a sneak preview for you. Below you’ll find a clip of one of the cartoons featured on the DVD along with a behind-the-scenes clip.

Popeye, Olive Oyl, and Bluto are back to entertain fans in 2008 when Warner Home Video, Hearst Entertainment and King Features Syndicate get set to release Popeye The Sailor 1938-1940 Volume 2 and Popeye and Friends Vol. 1 on June 17, 2008. The 2-disc Authorized Edition 1938-1940 DVD collection includes 31 original re-mastered and unedited theatrical shorts created by the legendary Max Fleischer. Popeye and Friends Volume 1 is a 1-disc set including 8 full-color shorts.

Beowulf Blu-ray slashing its way into stores this July

Paramount has announced that the computer animated Beowulf is coming to Blu-ray on July 29th. The movie was previously released on DVD and HD DVD. Video will be presented at 2.35:1 1080p AVC with a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

Bonus features include: 17 featurettes ranging from a look at the stunts to the origins of Beowulf, deleted scenes, a theatrical trailer and other hidden surprises.

Madagascar and Shrek the Third get Blu-ray release

Dreamworks has announced that they will release Madagascar and Shrek the Third for Blu-ray on September 16th. No specs or special features have been announced yet, except for Shrek the Third which will include the same bonus features as the HD DVD release.

Shrek the Third special features include lost scenes, a behind-the-scenes featurette, music video, animation video jukebox and much more.

Persepolis DVD & Blu-ray announced

The critically acclaimed, Academy Award nominated film Persepolis arrives on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on June 24, 2008. Based on the autobiographical graphic novels by Marjane Satrapi and directed and written by Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, Persepolis won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film and was named Best Animated Feature by the New York Film Critics Circle.

Persepolis is the story of a young girl in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. It is through the eyes of nine year old Marjane that we see a people’s hopes dashed as fundamentalists take power – forcing the veil on women and imprisoning thousands. Clever and fearless, she outsmarts the “social guardians” and discovers punk, ABBA and Iron Maiden.

DVD/Blu-Ray Bonus Features Include:

Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Hour: Vol. 1 DVD info

Warner Home Video brings the animated series Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Hour: Volume One to DVD for the first time on May 20, 2008. The two-disc collector’s set will feature seven episodes on two discs.

Richie Rich and Scooby-Doo were the stars of The Richie Rich, Scooby-Doo Show, which originally aired on ABC. The one-hour program combined several shorts, each featuring either Richie Rich or Scooby-Doo.

Justice League Season One Blu-ray announced

Warner Bros. has announced the upcoming Blu-ray release of Justice League Season One on August 19, 2008.

The release will include all 26 season one episodes on three BD-50 Blu-ray discs. No info on the extras has been released although you can at least expect the bonus features from the DVD release.

Oban Star-Racers Vol. 1: The Alwas Cycle now available

Shout! Factory has released today Oban Star-Racers Vol. 1: The Alwas Cycle on DVD with Oban Star-Racers Vol. 2: The Oban Cycle following on May 20, 2008. Each volume of these DVDs feature 13 completely uncut episodes.

Volume One:
It’s 2082. Ten thousand years have passed since the last great race on the remote planet of Oban. Now the time has come for the pilots of the galaxy to compete in a new race, and Earth is more than ready with its spectacular Whizzing Arrow star-racer. Built and maintained by racing legend Don Wei’s team of engineers and mechanics, the Whizzing Arrow has become the Earth’s only hope against annihilation by the greatest foe the world has ever seen—the menacing Crog Imperium.
