‘WALL-E’ wins Oscar for Best Animated Feature

During last night’s 81st Academy Awards, Pixar’s WALL-E took home the award for Best Animated Feature, marking Andrew Stanton’s second win in the category. In case you’re wondering, he also won for Finding Nemo. WALL-E was a huge hit for Disney/Pixar, raking in over $534MM worldwide and receiving a movie critic review average of 96% on RottenTomatoes.

Also announced at last night’s awards ceremony was the winner for Best Animated Short. The winner was “La Maison En Petits Cubes,” directed by Kunio Kato, which you can watch in its entirety here.

‘American Dad Vol. 4’ coming to DVD April 28

FOX announced today that “American Dad Vol. 4″ arrives on DVD April 28. From “Family Guy” producers Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, “American Dad” follows the adventures of ultra-conservative CIA agent Stan Smith, a man who will stop at nothing to protect his family and country from the dangers of international terrorism and left-wing America.

“American Dad Vol. 4″ features 14 episodes from seasons three and four along with commentaries from cast and crew members, deleted scenes and more.

The “American Dad Vol. 4” DVD Collection is presented on full screen (aspect ratio 1.33:1) and features English 5.1 Dolby Surround and English, French and Spanish subtitles.

‘Monsters’s Inc.’ and ‘A Bug’s Life’ coming to Blu-ray May 19

Disney has confirmed that both “Monster’s Inc.” and “A Bug’s Life” will make their Blu-ray Disc debut May 19; ten days, conveniently, before the theatrical release of Pixar’s latest “Up” — which just so happens to be tied directly to the releases, with each including free movie bucks for a screening of Up.

Both films will each be presented in their original aspect ratios (2.35:1 A Bug’s Life, 1.85:1 Monster’s Inc.) in 1080p video with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Both discs will also feature a digital copy of each respective film that you can watch on a portable device such as an iPod, BD-Live access, and the brand new Filmmakers’ Roundtable.

In addition, A Bug’s Life will include a new bonus feature: an Original Story Treatment, while Monster’s Inc. will include the all-new “Ride and Go Seek: Building Monstropolis in Tokyo for Monster’s Inc.”

‘Happily N’Ever After 2’ coming to DVD

On March 24, Lionsgate releases a new twist on the classic tale of Snow White and The Seven Dwarves with the animated DVD Happily N’Ever After 2. Everyone’s favorite characters have returned in Happily N’Ever After 2 including the Seven Dwarves, Rumpelstiltskin, and the break-out characters, Mambo and Munk, back in the role as the Wizard’s assistants responsible for managing the balance of good and evil in Fairy Tale Land.

DVD special features include 3 interactive games:

Red Riding Hood Challenge: Using Red’s basket of goodies, test your vision to see if you can keep track of the different kinds of pastries that come and go in a limited amount of time.

Bo Peep and the Sheep: Outsmart the Ogre in a game of Odd Sheep Out. The Ogre will present several visual challenges that involve Bo Peep’s sheep.

Snow White and the Great Hall: Using hints and tips from Mambo and Munk, make your way down the great hall all the while Rumpelstiltskin will try to blast dark magic at you by aiming the Mirror in your direction.

Cartoon Network picks up ‘Marvel Super Hero Squad’

AWN reports that Cartoon Network has picked up 26 episodes of the new “Marvel Super Hero Squad” animated series, scheduled to debut in late 2009. The show features stylized versions of popular Marvel characters including Captain America, Silver Surfer, Hulk, Wolverine and Iron Man.

The series will be voiced by Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Charlie Adler (Transformers), Steve Blum (Wolverine and the X-Men) and Grey DeLisle (The Fairly Oddparents).

Various celebrities will also provide guest-star voice work, including: LeVar Burton, Robert Englund and Stan Lee as the Mayor of Super Hero City.

‘Wonder Woman’ West Coast premiere

Wonder Woman, the fourth entry in the DC Universe animated original movie series, will receive a West Coast big screen premiere at WonderCon on February 27, 2009 in the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

The 6:00 p.m. screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring filmmakers and voice cast, including animation legend Bruce Timm and Academy Award nominee Virginia Madsen. Filmmakers will also screen the world premiere of the first footage of Green Lantern: First Flight, an upcoming DC Universe animated original movie.

Presented by Warner Premiere, Warner Bros. Animation and DC Comics, the all-new Wonder Woman animated original movie will be distributed by Warner Home Video on March 3, 2009. Wonder Woman will be available as a Single Disc DVD, 2-Disc Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray Disc. The animated original movie will also be available OnDemand and Pay-Per-View, as well as available for download day and date, March 3, 2009.

Madsen, making her first-ever Con appearance, provides the voice of Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons and mother to Diana/Wonder Woman. She is joined in the stellar voice cast by Keri Russell, Nathan Fillion, Alfred Molina, Rosario Dawson, Oliver Platt and David McCallum.

An autograph session for all panelists is being scheduled for Saturday, February 28.
