Pixar angry at Disney’s marketing team
Pixar executives are blaming Disney’s marketing team for failing to create a promotional campaign for Ratatouille that would have put the movie in the top-five for the year, which their previous 7 films managed to accomplish. Presently, Ratatouille is sitting in the 8th spot and might end up out of the top 10 by year’s end.
Because of this, Pixar is now overseeing the marketing campaign for the upcoming WALL-E, which has obviously angered Disney’s marketing staff. An anonymous employee said Ratatouille “was a very difficult picture to sell during an incredibly competitive summer. They’re now being complete bastards about the WALL-E trailer, insisting that only they know the proper way to promote their next picture. But that’s okay. Let them call the shots on WALL-E’s marketing campaign. Next year, they’ll be the ones who’ll be taking the fall when that Andrew Stanton film doesn’t measure up to expectations.”

Open Season 2 heads directly to DVD
Sony Pictures Animation has confirmed that it’s making a direc-to-DVD Open Season sequel which will hit store shelves in 2009. The original film took in $190 million worldwide and performed well on DVD so a sequel isn’t much a surprise. What is a surprise is the decision to to straight to DVD which hopefully doesn’t mean the production value will suffer.
The new movie will focus on Mr. Weenie and Giselle, both of which were characters in the original film. No word on whether or not the Boog and Elliot characters will make an appearance.

Jeff Garlin voices only speaking character in WALL-E
During an interview with moviehole, Jeff Garlin had to the following to say:
Moviehole: And you play the Captain ….
Jeff: How do you know this!?
Moviehole: I tell you I …
Jeff: OK yes I play the Captain and it’s pretty much my own voice. And the character looks a lot like me. made it – in the movie I’m the only animated character that speaks.
Moviehole: Because a lot of the film is silent right?
Jeff: Yeah a lot of the film is silent and they’re robots so they make noises and such and there’s sound but I’m one of the only characters that speak – not one of them – I am the only animated character that speaks. There’s another character but I can’t talk about it. But I’m the only animated character that speaks.
As previously announced, Wall-E will feature some sort of live-action mixed in to the animation. This is what Jeff probably means when he says he’s the only animated character that speaks.
Personally I am a bit nervous about this whole live-action thing but if anyone can pull if off well, (unlike Happy Feet) it’s Pixar.
