Ferrell, Pitt and Hill join ‘Oobermind’ cast

DreamWorks Animation has announced that Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill will voice characters in the upcoming “Oobermind,” set for release in fall 2010.

Ferrell replaces Robert Downey Jr. in the title role of a supervillain who imagines all his dastardly dreams coming true after defeating good-guy rival Metro Man (Pitt), only to find life quite boring without an adversary. To fill the void, Oobermind creates a new superhero, Titan (Hill), who also wants to be bad, forcing Oobermind to switch sides. Also part of the cast is Tina Fey who plays a reporter keeping track of all the superhero drama.

Oobermind joins DreamWorks Animation’s other 3D animated films “Shrek Forever After” and “How to Train Your Dragon,” both of which will also be released in 2010.

Cartoon Network cancels ‘Chowder’

Chowder creator C. H. Greenblatt has confirmed that Carton Network has canceled the show, currently in post-production of its third season. Greenblatt jokes on his blog, “I haven’t had a break like this in a long, long time. Now I can relax and do all sorts of fun things like finish Final Fantasy XII since I need something to quell my occasional World of Warcraft tremors.”

Don’t count Greenblatt out though, as he’s got new show ideas already in development: “Chowder has opened up a lot of awesome possibilities for me, and creatively I’m feeling more inspired than ever. There are some new ideas I’m working on that will hopefully find a good home somewhere in the next year.”

Lastly, Greenblatt addresses Chowder’s future: “We’re still finishing up lots of good episodes. I think you’ll see that we hit a really good groove third season. My biggest worry before we were cancelled was what would happen to the crew, but luckily, a large chunk of them got hired over at Disney on a new project.”

‘Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs’ takes box office record away from ‘Finding Nemo’

Fox’s “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” has taken the international box office crown away from Pixar’s “Finding Nemo,” as it soared past the previous record of $524.9 million for an animated film’s international gross. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs now sits comfortably at the top with $551.4 million so far. The film is still playing in theaters, so expect the final total to be much higher — most likely in the $600 million range. Not to take away from Ice Age’s accomplishment, I must remind you that this total includes the higher prices of 3D/IMAX screenings.
