Ratatouille rakes in the foreign cash
Pixar’s Ratatouille keeps chugging along collection millions more from various foreign countries. According to final data issued Monday, Ratatouille pulled in weekend sales of $30.2 million from 31 countries.
Ratatouille has become the 3rd most popular Pixar movie after Finding Nemo and The Incredibles and the 6th most popular non-sequel animated film.
Here are some sales numbers by country:
Italy - $8.2 million
Poland - $1.5 million
Finland - $668,000
Sweden - $2,000,000
China - $585,000.
Germany - $29,300,000
U.K. - $18,500,000

Step-by-step construction lesson
John K. has produced a wonderful step-by-step construction lesson video that feature a frame from a Tex Avery short, Heckling Hare, featuring Bugs Bunny.
John breaks down every step and simplifies things to the basics of drawing. It is definitely worth a look and it’s very cool to be able to see an animation master at work.
What is a Cartoon Director?
John K has written a great post at his blog which talks about the role of the “Director” in the animation industry in the past and in the present.
It’s a very interesting read with plenty of visual examples. If you haven’t already, make sure to add John K’s blog to your bookmarks and/or RSS reader - you won’t be dissapointed.

The Animation Show of Shows now on DVD
Acme Filmworks has released 18 DVD compilations of short animated films from The Animation Show of Shows which has toured the world, screening the best in animated shorts.
Each of the 18 volumes features three films and sells for $5. The three box sets include six of those volumes and sell for $30. Fans can also purchase all three box sets for $90. The DVDs are available exclusively at filmporium.com

Universal partners with Nelvana
Universal Studios Home Ent. Canada and Nelvana Enterprises have announced a seven-year deal that will see Universal manufacture, market and sell five properties on DVD for Nelvana Enterprises in Canada
The properties include: Jane and the Dragon, Grossology, DI-GATA Defenders, Ruby Gloom and a feature-length Franklin movie.

The Adventures of Bert and Ernie announced
Sesame Workshop is hard at work on two new animated shows; Twiddlebugs and The Adventures of Bert and Ernie.
The CG animated Twiddlebugs features insect characters who live in a box at Bert and Ernie’s residence. The show is aimed at 3-6 year olds and is set to premiere in September 2008.
The Adventures of Bert and Ernie is a claymation show featuring two of most known Sesame Street characters. Presale deals have been signed with various TV stations around the world including ABC (Australia), Disney Asia, Disney Spain and SVT (Sweden).

Nightmare Before Christmas returns to theaters
The tradition continues this Halloween when Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas returns to theaters in Disney Digital 3-D on Oct. 19-Nov. 18, including the famous El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. The film will be in three times as many theaters as last year — around 600 nationwide.
At El Capitan on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 7:00 pm, there will be a special opening-night filmmakers’ panel and screening. The panel will be hosted by veteran Disney producer Don Hahn and feature producer Denise Di Novi, director Henry Selick and supervising animator Mike Belzer.

Pixar: One Man Band
One Man Band is a Pixar short film that premiere at the 29th Annecy Animation Festival in Annecy, France, and won the Platinum Grand Prize at the Future Film Festival in Bologna, Italy. It was shown with the theatrical release of Cars.
Like many Pixar shorts, the film is completely free of dialogue, instead using music and pantomime to tell the story.
Pixar: Geri’s Game
Geri’s Game is a 1997 animated short film made by Pixar. It was written and directed by Jan Pinkava. It was the first Pixar Short created after the creation of Toy Story. The film won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. Enjoy!
